Dear Thoughtful Leader, Conscious Creative, Mindfulness Practitioner,

What’s your learning and reviewing process look like these days? Are you taking classes, reading and reviewing, honing your unique skills? Also, what are you doing with the knowledge that you’re exploring? How are you sharing useful information with others? Lately, I’ve been getting back into the habit of reading. Not just listening to audio books, though they can be very helpful while in motion like driving or cleaning, I’m talking about reading physical and digital copies of books. I really like reading and I want to read more! I remember when I was younger, my papa would take my brother and I to the library every two to three weeks. Usually, I would bring home at least 3 books with different themes on purpose. Papa would say something like, “Are you really going to finish all of these books before they’re due?!” I’d reply with something like, “Maybe not, but at least I have options with me and I can check it out again at least one more time, right!?” I guess I never was the type of gal to focus on only one topic to learn from at a time. I’ve been told plenty of times that I tend to transform limitations into something more expansive and resourceful. Honestly, I just like to learn, I appreciate diversity, and when I come across a challenge I enjoy riding the wave of ‘What can I learn from this?’ and ‘How can I make this useful?’. I bet in your own way you’re pretty similar in your process of learning and reviewing to succeed in life! Know this: I commend you for remaining steadfast in your journey to acquire real knowledge! I believe that the wisdom, advice, principles, and practices that you share with others is adding more light into this world. Continue living by example, teaching others to grow beyond their comfort zones. May we continue to be blessed by your tremendous skill, talent, and spirit! A major part of my learning and reviewing process is sharing with you all here in this blog. It’s one of the many ways that I’m sharing useful information with others. Truthfully, it’s stretching me beyond my own comfort zone because sometimes I think what I have to share isn’t that big of a deal. However, you remind me that sometimes something that seems so small to one person can be a huge life changer for another. So, Thank you for the friendly reminder!

Practice ~ One Line Per Day

This week let’s revisit the habit stacking guru, James Clear. You’ll notice a cycle from here on out with each blog post: I'll introduce an author, speaker, or teacher along with a practice or challenge as well as a link to where you can learn more. I’ll revisit each author, speaker, or teacher with another practice and move on to introducing other motivational folks who explore the topics of leadership, creativity, and mindfulness. I hope that this rhythm works well for you! Now, here’s the practice for this week:

  1. Choose Your Journal: This can be on your phone, computer, a notebook, etc

  2. Choose A Writing Prompt: You can choose a different thought provoking question each day or the same daily question with a different answer each day.

  3. Write One Line Per Day: It can be one sentence or one phrase. Keep it simple and short.

  4. Check Out Guided Journals: Example → Clear Habit Journal

Jessi's Example

  1. I’m using google docs for my daily journal.

  2. My daily writing prompt will be the same question with a different answer each day: How are you sharing useful information with others today?

  3. Here’s my one sentence/phrase entry: Today, I’m sharing James Clear’s practice of one line per day, something that has helped me sum up life lessons I’ve received from daily reading.

“Here's the truth: There’s no one “right” way to journal. You can do it wherever you want and in whatever way you want. All you need is a piece of paper or a blank document. However, although there is no right way to journal, there is an easy way to journal… Write one sentence per day. The primary advantage of journaling one sentence each day is that it makes journaling fun. It's easy to do. It's easy to feel successful. And if you feel good each time you finish journaling, then you'll keep coming back to it. A habit does not have to be impressive for it to be useful.” -James Clear Read The Full Article Here → Journaling One Sentence
