My A.M. Routine

I like to begin my day with a clear and calm mind because I believe that how I spend my first hours can set the tone for the rest of the day.

My morning routine consists of yoga, meditation, writing, mineral water, and supplements. After these starters, I make a point to get fresh air and sunlight while spending quality time with the mister and the puppy dog on a short walk. Then, I do my best to get in a good breakfast which is more often than not a superfood meal shake and then I transition into preparing for the day, work life, and creative projects.

Though my internal transformations have been as simple as a pleasant mood and attention to detail, my morning practice success has been highlighted by others' sharing their observations. Their supportive comments have helped me to take my morning routine for mental clarity more seriously. To this day, folks around me ask what I am doing to maintian a glow, a happy mood, and a relaxed demeanor. Thank you to my loved ones and strangers alike. I am forever grateful for your cuious nature and your gentle push!

If your morning routine is on point, good for you and keep up the good work! Your thoughtfulness to get your heart and mind in a peaceful and calming place benefits your own life and it can also make a world of a difference as you're connecting with others. If you don't have a morning routine in place, you can consider the meditative practice I'm sharig with you below. You may want to begin your practice with five minutes and commit to two to three times a week until you form an enjoyable habit or schedule that works best to suit your lifestyle needs.

Morning Practice Benefits

Remember that your morning routine doesn't have to be complicated or elaborate.

Starting with or revisiting a simple meditative practice can help:

  • Reduce grogginess, fatigue, and brain fog

  • Cultivate comfort and acceptance with silence

  • Energize the mind and body, creating a sense of lightness

  • Enliven attentive and curious attitude towards self, others. and world

Meditative Practice

Below I'm sharing one of my personal morning practices with you. You can do this anytime through out the day to suit your schedule and lifestyles needs. Also, it takes about five to ten minutes and you can extend the practice to suit your preferences.

  • Posture (Asana): Sit in a comfortable position. If you'd like you can use a chair and/or a pillow to support the back, keeping your posture upright and making it easy for you to breathe fully and deeply. If you're familiar with yoga poses, choose a position that's suitable for a still, meditative practice. Remember that you'll be in this pose for at least five minutes and if necessary, you can use a timer. In this time your focus is to breathe and be still. You're welcome to visit the "Belly Breathing" technique for this practice.

  • Hand Gesture (Mudra): Keep your hands rested in your lap or on your knees. With the palms facing up, you can help to cultivate a sense of receptivity in your body while gentlly encouraging the shoulders to stay rolled back. This also encourages for good posture and easy breathing as mentioned above. You may also choose to use a mudra of your choosing if you're familiar with yoga techiniques. One of my favorite mudras is Bhairava or Bhairavi. This hand gesture is intended to cultivate subtler levels of consciousness according to the Hatha Yoga Pradipika yoga text. If you don't have access to this text you can visit Easy Ayurveda for more information.

Whether you choose to incorporate this meditative practice into your morning routine or not, I hope that you find a simple and enjoyable ritual that brings you mental clarity. It seems to me that when the mind is clear and calm, the body naturally follows suit. This can lead to a more balanced internal experience of thoughts and emotions while simultaneously extending out to how we connect with each other and the surrounding environment. May you have blessings and life long lessons on your journey!
